Investing AU$13,750,000 in the next four years from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), the largest single donor of the project, the international medical research organisation is backing researchers at the University of Melbourne, the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and the University of NSW. The projects will be supported by the outstanding researchers Professor Paul McEwan, MRC Grantees Professor Yule Liu and PhD student Dr Miriam Kathan at the University of Melbourne; Professor Leigh Gibson, from the University of Western Australia; Professor Charles Chau, at the Florey Institute; and Professor Yuri Seluanov, who is an HHMI Early Career Scientist. To learn more about how these four biohealth researchers will be supported, watch this short video, hosted by HHMI President Dr Georgina King. The projects, all of which involve the modification of a virus and the creation of an attenuated virus that can be used as a vaccine, have the potential to transform the world’s ability to prevent and control viral infectious diseases. The first project, developed by the team at the University of Melbourne, is the development of a universal vaccine that prevents and/or cures viral infections. The next, from the University of Western Australia, is the development of a vaccine that, when combined with a recombinant protein, creates a more effective response to HIV infection, which currently requires life-long maintenance on highly toxic antiviral drugs. The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health will receive AU$865,000 to create a vaccine that can be offered to young women to protect them against human papilloma virus (HPV) infections, which is linked to cervical cancer, and to HIV/hepatitis C infection. And at the University of NSW, a single shot vaccine to prevent infection with West Nile Virus (WNV) will be developed. WNV is a mosquito-borne disease that can cause severe disease in people such as swelling of the brain and paralysis. The University of Sydney is a leader in the study of mosquito vectors and will receive AU$550,000 to provide Fanpak online activetoyshop.home — from 100 to 2 900 — (in some free chatrooms).. we intend to kill everyone who stands in our way.
